comfortzone

If you treat a sick child as an adult and a sick adult as a child, it usually works out pretty well. I figured that one out as a young bride, the first time my husband came shuffling down the stairs, nursing a bad cold. . . in pajamas. He had always been a t-shirt and sweatpants sleeper, yet miraculously he appeared in a pair of PJ’s straight out of “Leave it to Beaver.”

I’m grateful when I have the chance to help someone I love feel better. There are times when I’ll encourage my sniffling kid to buck up and keep on going. But then there are the times when I’ve called him in sick for nothing more than a hangnail.

What is it about feeling lousy; that causes us to return to our roots? I often wonder if it works like that with prayer. Take a turn off-course just slightly, and from independent thinker, become an anxious partner with God.

Whether we seek comfort from a worn pair of flannels or by calling upon our Creator, it’s obvious we have a need for familiarity. Find peace in prayer, in sickness and in health.

Ever-Present

I lost my nerve today
and You led me back to it.
What would I do without Your
ever-present support?

Thank You for never,
tiring
tiring
tiring of my repetitive
pleas and failings.

You are:
ever-patient
ever-forgiving
ever-loving.

I am merely:
ever-human
ever-sinful
ever-grateful for You.
