The Gift I Give Myself

Blogs - Chief of Pray Blog

81110susanblogI bought myself something new. I’m totally un-sentimental; I discourage gift-giving. I trained my husband from early on— no cards, no presents. If I want something, I’ll buy it. The same deal goes for him. With all these virtual IOU’s, from years of simpler celebrating, I felt great splurging on a bracelet that caught my eye and spoke to my heart.

Being an owner of a faith-based business, I’m often approached by others who want to work with us. Because Prayables.com has a multi-faith mission, it isn’t as easy as you think to find open-minded partners without an agenda. We’re always on the look-out for companies, organizations, and individuals to introduce to our community. Many contact me, all gung-ho to join forces. They tell me Prayables is the perfect fit, they are ready, willing, and able to change the world by teaming up with us to add more pray to a woman’s day. But you know the drill— no follow up. Something distracts them. The dog ate their homework, blah blah blah.

And then came Jill Felts. She’s different. We added Jill’s company: Compelling Creations to the May We Suggest feature of  Lori’s "Rings and Things" prayer. Jill shared a link to Prayables in her e-Newsletter. Perfect fit! And she didn’t stop there. Jill is a jewelry designer with a purpose. Hers is an online retail business with a team of consultants, giving home parties, and selling the jewelry to their friends and neighbors.

Jill told me about the Big World One Prayer Peace bracelet she thought I’d like. It comes with a peace prayer shared by eight faiths: Do to others as you would have them do to you. It’s encouraging to see Islam, Taoism, Christianity, Judaism, Shinto, Primal Religions, Buddhism, and Hinduism all have their own versions of the same prayer.

So here I am, the proud purchaser of a beautiful sterling silver reminder that all of our prayers are one.

Broadcast

Help me silence the relentless roar
of newscasters and fanatics.
So much of what we hear each day
seeks to separate us from one another.
I watch the news because I want to know
what is going on in the world.
What I see and hear is hate.

Help me look into the faces around me
and see the divine spark You have given
each and every one of us.
Help me, and women like me,
who come to You seeking comfort,
singing praise, bring
Your peace and love into the world.
