Rock Me Slowly

Today, he closed the door behind him,
All he wanted, in his suitcase.
Upstairs, an empty bed once shared.
A table holds the gifts I gave him,
more closet space, I cannot fill.

Still holding up, and holding on.
I turned to see— he left our photos.
The dam burst, tears flooding,
inconsolable, I cry out,
"this will be my undoing!"

You, my Creator, sustain me
in my darkest hour.
Lift me up and rock me slowly.

You, who know my path ahead,
tell me, tomorrow I will push past.

Help me heal, reliving only memories
that offer up a smile.
I commit to You and I trust in You.
Someday, I will feel whole again.
