Plea for Hope

He stares unseeing into the distance.
He is so young;
his life full of possibilities—
but he can’t feel it.
I fear I will say the wrong thing
and push him
beyond all hope, beyond all help.

Please help me reach out
with a steady hand.
Please help me speak in a calm voice.
I cannot heal him alone.
Help me find a place where others
can give him the help he needs.
Show him how to rediscover hope and life,
two gifts that come through You
each and every day.
