fired-prayerI hand in my card pass and locker key.
I pack my personal possessions in a box.
I mumble my good-byes.
I rub away my tears and pretend to smile.
I need to pray but the words won't come.

Ex-colleagues avoid looking me in the eye
As they shake my hand.
Is my redundancy catching?
From buddy to stranger, just like that.
I want to pray but the words won't come.

I am confused, troubled, worried.
I struggle to understand the why.
Shattering thoughts rip through my mind
How will I manage now?
I wish to pray but the words won't come.

The job market is rocky;
And I stand at the edge of a precipice.
It's difficult to be fired with enthusiasm
When you've just been fired from a job you loved.
I need, wish and want to pray; this is the best I can do.
