The Forgotten

Prayers - Serenity Prayer

The Forgotten

They sitWTheForgotten
in managed care facilities,
life at an ebb.
Sometimes forgotten,
like books full of photos
and lively text that nobody reads.

They break my heart,
for I see myself in them.
Someday, I might be alone.
We women tend to outlive our men.
When the world forgets me, I pray—
You will remember me.

Visit me daily, so I am not alone.
Speak to me of happier times.
Surround me with others who understand.
Let my caretakers be kind.
Do not forget me.
For I am never alone
as long as You are with me.
