As I come before the Bench,
I'm realizing my prayers are always answered.
It's either on it’s way or something better is coming.
In a courtroom, a lawyer will "object"
and the judge will either "sustain" or "overrule."
Sustain me through these trials of life.
Overrule the doubts that creep into my soul.
Bang the gavel when I've spoken out of turn.
Plead my case for me when I can't find the words.
Help me to step up boldly to speak my piece
and then throw myself on Your mercy.

it's the dark corner of the mall parking lot,
way in the back, by the dumpsters.
It is that blind turn on the highway,
the one you take surface streets to avoid.

The road to change hurts,
alternately slippery,
thorny and up-hill both ways,
uncomfortable, brutal, mean.
Also, necessary.

It's not that I don't believe in You.
I just don't believe in me.
You are all, and I am nothing,
so how can I get from here to there?
The span between is endless,
and if I fall, an eternity of emptiness awaits.
Today I start climbing.
And I will never stop as long as You believe
I can make it.

Our Connection

I grew up with prayer
as a quiet quick few seconds before bed,
but that's no longer enough.

Adoration,
praise,
supplication,
and pleas for intervention.

They may not have been part of my past,
but maybe they will be part of our future,
Your's and mine, together.
