Wisdom of Our Elders

Bless the Nanas of the world,
the Pop-Pops, the Gramps,
who show us how to knit, how to fish,
how to find a good mood
even when their sciatica kicks in.

Secretly holding the world together,
they don't compete
with whoever the Joneses might be,
and teach that kindness
is love on a slow drip.

Release that spirit in me today.

Help me to emulate them:
Slow boiling point,
Story at the ready,
Candy and kind word in pocket.

Very few things in life are so aptly named.
There's a reason we call them "grand."
