A fellow is driving in his car, and he says to God,
“I really don’t like my life. My life is terrible I want a new life.”
God says, Okay, I’ll sell you a new life. What do you have that can pay for your new life?
“Well, I only have twenty dollars in my pocket.”
God says, Great! That’s exactly the price of a brand-new life.
“Wait a minute. If I give you my twenty dollars, how am I going to put gas in my car?”
God says, Oh, you have a car too, then the price for a new life is twenty dollars plus your car.
“If I give you my car, how am I going to get to work?
God says, Oh, you have a job too? In that case, the price for a new life is twenty dollars, your car, and your job.
“If I give you my job, how am I going to pay my mortgage?”
God says, Ah, you have a house too? Then the price for a new life is twenty dollars, your car, your job, and your house.
“If I give you my house, where will my wife and kids live?”
God says, You have a wife and kids too? Then the price for a new life is twenty dollars, your car, your job, your house, and your wife and kids.
“No deal.”
God says, Okay. I’ll give you back your twenty dollars, your car, your job, your house, your wife, and your kids. Consider the deal done. All this is your new life. Make a good life with all you now have.
What God is telling us with this story is there are two ways you can live your life. You can live a life complaining that life is terrible, something is missing, and you always need more. Or you can live life with appreciation for all that you have already, thanking God constantly and realizing that whatever you have is enough.
