For years, I subscribed to the noise.
There are still some days I can hear it calling my name, asking me to return to the hustle and momentum– to the “just one more milestone” kind of life.
But the other day, overloaded by the noise, I powered down my phone, made a cup of tea, and sat on the couch with my favorite accessory– a bright yellow notepad.
And there, in that breath of silence, I wrote these words:
“There’s a person you’re becoming. And she thrives in unplugged hours, yellow notepads, thick presence, candles burning, and homemade chocolate chip banana bread.”
The words felt like a pulse check. Like a reminder, penned to myself, for a day when I wasn’t so sure.
And so maybe you need the reminder today, too:
There’s a person you’re becoming.
Through every task and every item checked off the list. Through every appointment and meeting. Through every dark day and every rainbow after the storm.
There’s a person you’re becoming through every hard conversation. Every “Define the Relationship.” Every bill paid. Every adulting task completed that feels like it should be delegated to someone older, someone wiser.
Through every cup of coffee and every journal filled. Every phone call answered and every time you press the “publish” button.
There’s a person you’re becoming through carpool lines and bedtime routines. Through sleepless nights and interrupted quiet times. Through prayer walks around the cul de sac and heels dug deep in the ground, waiting.
Waiting…
For the season to shift.
For the door to open.
For the screen to light up— carrying their name like a foghorn through the storm.
For water to boil.
For the doctor to call.
For the light to turn green.
For the test to show two lines.
For the rain to come.
For the dark to pass.
There’s a person you’re becoming through every chop and dice and marinate. Through every commute. Through every book read and every lesson pinned down to the page. Through every calendar page and every time you put the clothes away in the attic to prepare for another season.
There’s a person you’re becoming… in every early morning. In every answered prayer. In every frustration and every question, waiting for its answer. In every “no” and “not yet.” In every discovery and chance meeting. In every interaction– the subtle smile as you walk on by, and every “how are you” to the cashier at the register.
There’s a person you’re becoming through every mile marker and every clearing in the woods. Through every faith-filled beginning and every faithful finish. Through every piece of clutter released, every sentence scratched out, every time you’ve pressed on the backspace button.
There’s a person you’re becoming.
There’s a person you’re becoming.
There’s a person you’re becoming.
Today is a good day to remember that.
