The farm exploded with sunflowers about a month ago. Every path and pasture was brightened by those golden faces—lifting their gaze toward the sun, following its course, and greeting us like cheerful friends. Sunflowers have a way of teaching us, don’t they? Whether it’s their joyful color, their steady turning toward light, or the way they leave behind seeds for a future not yet seen, they remind us that hope is always sown in today for tomorrow.
Now, as the season turns, the stalks are browning, their radiant heads bowing heavy with seed. What once was full of vibrant bloom is now preparing for rest—for storing up and for giving back to the soil and the next generation of life. This is the holy rhythm of creation: the fullness of summer giving way to the gathering of fall. As Ecclesiastes reminds us, “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven.”
There’s a tender lesson here for us too. The sunflower knows how to rejoice in its season of shining, and it knows how to stand steadfast when it’s time to let go. So it is with us—we are called to rejoice and be glad in the day the Lord has made, and to remain rooted in Him when change comes. His mercies are new every morning, and He is faithful in every season.
As we hold this tension between summer’s abundance and autumn’s gathering, let us be steadfast and hopeful. Let us treasure what remains, even as we make way for what’s next. The joy of the Lord is not fleeting like a flower—it abounds, carrying us from one season into the next.
May we each lift our faces like sunflowers to the true Light, trusting His promises and finding joy in the steady turning of our days.
