Parable: Sowing Seeds

A farmer went out to plant his seed. And as he was walking to his plot, some seed fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured it.

Some seeds fell on rocky ground, where there was little soil. It sprang up quickly because the soil was shallow. But when the sun rose, the seedlings were scorched, and they withered because they had no root.

Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the seedlings.

When he came to the land of his choice, he planted the seed with deliberation and care, in good soil.

The seeds he sowed and tended produced abundantly, a hundredfold. Enough to feed his family with much to spare for tithing and selling to those in need.

Seed on good soil represents those who hear, understand, and retain the word, allowing it to take root and produce a plentiful harvest of good deeds and spiritual fruit.
