The Week of May 20, 2017
{wisdom}
Behind all your stories, is your mother’s story. Because hers is where you begin.
The most valuable thing you may ever learn to do in this lifetime is to learn to distinguish the voice of God from the lies of your soul.
God makes you well with sunshine, air, exercise, diet, water and rest.
Amount of time allotted for the critical opinions of others today: zero.
What happens to you is less significant than what happens within you.
Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.
{blessing}
Excellent You
Your mother worked too hard for you not to be great. Not just better, but truly magnificent. It is in her honor (or in spite of her) that you exceed her expectations. May God bless you with excellence. In fact, He already has.
You Go First
You go first. Anyone can reach out, anyone can lead, anyone can pick someone else. But if you wait for “anyone”, it’s unlikely to happen. May you be blessed with initiative to boldly take the first step. It begins with you.
What You Long for
Have you longed for more joy in your life? Stop reliving less joyful moments. Have you longed for companionship? Don’t judge all future friendships by the few bad ones of the past. Have you longed for a life of meaning and purpose? May you be blessed with confidence in God’s holy plan for you: joy, companionship, and understanding. Live right.
What Money Can’t Buy
May you be blessed with time well spent, love earned, and hope for the future. It’s good to have money and the things that money can buy. But it’s also good to check in once in a while and make sure that you haven’t lost appreciation for the things that money can’t buy.
Live Responsively
God prepared this day for you with the most tender concern and attention to detail. It is filled with favor. May you be blessed to live responsively to God’s gifts and to be constantly on the lookout for all the good doings of the Lord.
Defend vs Offend
It’s a case of defending yourself vs. offending yourself. The reason it’s difficult for you to change is that you’re afraid you’ll change into someone your “old self” won’t like. It doesn’t have to be that way. May God bless you with transformation that honors your authentic self while destroying the imposter that lies within.
{prayers}
Never Alone
My God, I am not a babe, child, or teen and yet the sweet, sweet softness and love of my mother overwhelms me at times. She is gone from this tired earth, but never from my presence. I often feel her around, in the flutter of a butterfly that lands on my arm; tickling my tresses on a windless day; standing beside me in the kitchen, making me breakfast. God, I know my mother is with You. I am blessed and we are never alone. amen
Morning’s First Breath
God thank You for Your love today. Each morning when I wake, I am reminded of the warmth and beauty I am about to receive. Praise to You, who gives the morning its first breath.
Children’s Blessing
Dear God, Bless my children today. Create in them the will to come to me with their problems; feeling safe, loved and cared for. Let them feel Your love today; comforted by Your presence, delighted by Your generosity. Praise to You who sends blessings to my children today.
Creator of the Holy Word
There are times when the words of prayer rush forth quickly and without deliberation. Your Spirit infused. Praise to You, Creator of the holy Word.
Reflection of You
Time is like air, it’s a background to everything. I can sometimes take it for granted, or not use it wisely. Help me to spend my time creating premium moments; leveraging minutes for masterpieces, upgrading conversations into communion, allowing the brightest beams of my nature to shine through, as I live; a reflection of You, O Lord.
Shine on Darkness
Dear God, I pray that each person finds You in his or her own way. That they are profoundly moved by You. That hearts are warmed by Your love. May every seeker find a presence of peace so strong, that it can not be denied. Let Your light shine on those in darkness.

Story: Whole World: Mom’s Story
Moms come in all shapes & sizes, but they’re pretty easy to recognize because they’re the ones who teach you stuff all the time about how to be in the world & sometimes that sounds a lot like: chew with your mouth closed, sit still. stand up straight, be polite, Look them in the eye. & sometimes it seems like that sort of thing doesn’t add up to a whole lot. Until the day you feel the soft ache of love in your heart that makes you take care with a friend who hurts or when you look in a stranger’s tired eyes & you stop & smile. Or when you listen to the ABC song for the thousandth time & you laugh & say ‘again’ & suddenly you understand that is the real thing moms do & it adds up to the whole world.
