Maggie is a wholehearted little girl. Everything she does (and even the things she does not get done) is done with sincerity, enthusiasm, and a whole heart.
When Maggie gets an idea in her head, she simply can’t not do it. And her ideas…well, let’s just say they never stop. If you could freeze time, and if there was such a thing as see-through goggles, and you could peek at Maggie’s brain in stop action, it would look like this.
Maggie is curious. She is always asking questions. She’ll bend down and ask an ant, “What are you doing there down on the ground? Where’s home? How exactly is your body built?”
And then she’ll do the research. Though only a child, and a young one at that, Maggie dives head first in to a topic she cares about. She starts with Google for a quick response but she doesn’t stop there. The whole wide world is her resource. Her wholehearted trust in God is her super power.
EPISODE 1: BREATHE BABY, BREATHE
One day Maggie had a thought. God is breath. A baby is born by God blowing a breath of life through the teeny tiny little mouth. It fills the teeny tiny little lungs. The teeny tiny little heart starts swooshing. The tens of thousands – no millions – no gazillions of teeny tiny little droplets of baby blood start flowing. The teeny tiny little vocal chords start growing and begin to fill with sounds nobody hears at first. Until, out of the teeny tiny little mouth (where God started the process in the first place) comes a GREAT BIG cry of life. Maggie loved that thought with her whole heart.
So, she quietly tip-toed in to her little brother’s blue and brown room with a western theme. She dragged over the leather horsey ottoman (it usually stayed put in the corner by the window) until it was lined up perfectly straight in front of the curlicue bars of her brother’s walnut wood spindle crib. And very carefully, with gentle determination, she used the horsey ottoman to reach the top of the bars of the crib and lean 3/4 of her little girl’s body inside the crib.
Maggie lowered her head to just slightly (but not quite) meet her baby brother’s little lips and with her whole heart she felt God in his breaths. When he would breathe in, she absolutely knew God was entering her baby brother’s little body. And in the exhale, she said hello to God who was obviously taking a split-second rest until giving life right back again.
Yes! Maggie concluded. God is definitely the mastermind behind every breath. God is surely in every breath. Maggie believed wholeheartedly, God IS breath.
