This is a story about a woman who was preparing to ask her boss for a raise. She practiced how she would do it.
Her husband knew this was a big step for his wife to take, so he planned something special.
When the woman got home, she saw that the table was set with their best china. She could smell the scent of something cooking in the oven.
Her husband greeted her with a big hug and the wife said, “I got the raise!”
“I knew you could do it,” responded her husband with a smile. He reached into his right pocket and gave her a card with a note, congratulating her.
They enjoyed the meal and spent a very happy evening together until bedtime.
The next morning, the woman noticed something sticking out of the wastebasket.
When she pulled it out, she saw her name written on an envelope. Inside was a consolation card from her husband that read, “Don’t worry about it, you are worth every penny you didn’t get, and most important, you are priceless to me.” It was signed with love by her thoughtful husband.
There will be times when you are expecting celebration, and disappointment knocks at the door. Know that what really matters isn’t the outcome itself. Instead, it’s your reaction to it. Be positive, but be prepared.
