It was after an invasion into enemy territory. The soldiers were arguing with each other. They needed to go into an abandoned building to make sure the enemy was really gone, and no booby traps were waiting for them.
The young unmarried soldier says to his older commander, “I’ll go in first.”
His commander says, “No, you are young and have a whole life ahead of you. I will lead.”
“With all due respect, I insist. You have a wife and four children. Your family loves you and relies on you. They could be widowed and orphaned.”
“Ah, but because you don’t have children yet, if something should happen to you, there is no one to continue your family line.”
The commander went in first, and thanks be to God, there were no dangers, and they completed their mission safely. This is a true story that happened recently, overheard by the rest of the squad. What a blessing! Two brave soldiers arguing with tremendous love and sacrifice for one another and their country.
