Story: Wedding Dancer

Sara was depressed. She couldn’t seem to shake it. Sara went to the great sage in her bustling village.

“Oh, Wise One, I am sad and depressed. I can’t control my tears, and I am tired all the time.”

The sage thought for only a few minutes and said, “Daughter, I have a job for you. We have many weddings in our town and many more on the outskirts. Every day that there is a wedding near enough to travel to, you must attend the reception and dance for the bride and groom.”

Sara was bewildered by the response. The sage further explained.

“It is a blessing to honor the bride and groom on their wedding day. Yet, I am not giving you this direction solely for the benefit of the wedding couples. Your dancing will be a blessing to the hundreds of people at the celebrations. In turn, God will lift the veil of darkness that covers you now, and you will live a life of  joy and celebration for the years to come.”

That same night, Sara attended the wedding of a young couple being celebrated in the town square. When the music started, her feet began to dance, her body began to sway, and a holy spirit enveloped her as her skirts twirled around her, and her face reflected the joy coursing through her being.

The wedding party was caught up in the contagious enthusiasm of the yet unknown dancer, and the celebration was a spectacular success.

Sara continued to attend weddings and she was happy. The advice of the great sage changed her. She never tired and never went low again.

Blessings flowed in the region. Couples got married, and they were blessed with loving relationships between spouses, healthy babies, and good fortune. And Sara too, benefitted from the overflow of blessings in her own life. She was fulfilled. God is good.

Post Script
Sara’s story is based on a true story, though the names and places are fictional.

The real “Sara” was at her great-granddaughter’s wedding. After the ceremony, “Sara” suffered a heart attack and was taken to the hospital and placed in ICU. The family members who accompanied her kept the rest of the family informed about her condition as the dinner and reception proceeded.  When “Sara” took a turn for the worse, the entire wedding party left the hall and went to the hospital.

It was a sight to see. Dressed in suits and festive gowns, along with the bride and groom, the family gathered around “Sara’s” bedside. Right there in the emergency room of the hospital’s ICU, someone played wedding music, the tunes that “Sara” had spent decades dancing to.  And with the joyous music playing, and her loved ones dressed for the occasion, “Sara” passed away peacefully at the age of 94.
