In the State of Florida the Los Angeles Dodgers were playing against the Florida Marlins in Miami and a Dodger player by the name of Shohi Otani hit a home run.
It was his 50th home run of the season, and in the same game, he stole his 50th base of the season. This broke the record. This has never happened in baseball history.
It’s called a 50/50. 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases. The 50/50 ball that was caught went up for auction with an opening bid of a $500,000 and sold for $4.39 million, setting a world record for the most expensive sports ball ever sold.
What’s the difference between that ball and any other baseball? You could line up 100 baseballs and ask the experts whether there is anything different from that ball to all the other balls that cost $5 in a sporting goods store. The greatest expert alive could not detect any difference in the actual ball.
However, what makes that ball worth millions of dollars is the story behind that ball.
On this eve of the new year, look back at your own story. Your triumphs and setbacks. The resolutions from last year made and kept, and the ones you’re still striving to achieve.
Transformations are hard, and sometimes just staying the course can be even more challenging. But at the stroke of midnight, you can congratulate yourself that you have lived to see another new year, filled with promise. God’s promise to you, inscribed on your soul.
Your value is not in the material goods you have accumulated. It’s not the number on your bank account.
Instead, look at your story. Have you continued to grow spiritually? Have you been aware of God’s work in nature? Have you been helpful to others?
Steady yourself and ready yourself for the new year.
Be prepared to receive the multitude of blessings that will come your way, in ways you could never have imagined.
Live the next chapter in your life with gratitude and joy.
