Blog: Hospitality

It’s a new month. Yesterday turned the page on October and brought us to November, home of Thanksgiving.

The plans are made for sharing the holiday with family and what I call extended family.

We are a blended family. Four kids that God carefully placed together when David and I married thirty-five years ago.

We have almost all (one holdout) relocated from the place where we met and raised our kids.

There’s no Hallmark holiday when lives are lived geographically far apart. When kids become adults and have more than one set of parents, spouses, and in-laws.

It’s a rare family celebration when everybody is together. And it’s okay.

So, I smile when I think of the text I received about this year’s holiday plans. “Thanksgiving is creeping up; it will be here before we know it…”

And on to the details: who’s coming, who’s not. “What can I bring: side, salad, dessert?”

Oh, and the “extended family” who we will be sharing the holiday with? My husband’s ex-wife, her husband, and the son we share.

Always be eager to practice hospitality.
